Mustard greens are almost ready to go out into the garden beds! Often recommended to direct sow, we’ve had good luck starting some in the greenhouse and planting more directly in beds to give us a nice long season of greens. The peas and pea shoots are growing quickly in the garden! The tall variety peas are mostly planted next to archways, medium high ones by the vertical trellises we have in the centers of beds. The short varieties, we grow for pea shoots, are planted in double rows at the edges of garden beds. This year we are growing sugar magnolia, golden sweet, and green beauty on the archways. We know that by now everyone has read at least a hundred letters from small business having to make hard decisions in the last week because of COVID-19. Sunny Point Café is no exception. As a small family business we have had to make hard decisions before and know we will have to again. But we are a feisty group of people that beats the odds every day. Restaurants across the country are having to do the same thing that we are without much guidance from the government, only the guidelines set by the CDC. Please contact your local senator and tell them that we all need help!

So, following the CDC guidelines we are deciding to close temporarily to help combat the spread of this virus. We are hoping to reopen April 10 to resume offering takeout and delivery. During this down time we will be reinventing ourselves so that we can become better and safer at getting our food out to you. For us that will mean having fewer employees for a little while unfortunately and adjusting menu items while still providing the same great food and service we always have. We will try offering Take And Bake comfort meals at an affordable price to our neighbors and community. We will adjust hours to better meet the demands of our customers. As always we will continue following CDC guidelines for opening and closing sanitation procedures and look for ways to exceed them. We will vet our delivery drivers and make sure that they are doing the same. Email us if you have suggestions at sunnypointcafe@gmail.com.

We know that times seem dark, but there are signs all around us that spring is in the air. We see people out walking, biking, and taking advantage of the lovely weather. We encourage everyone in the neighborhood to walk around the garden at Sunny Point. Keep a social distance, but take a deep breath and appreciate the beautiful place we live in.

We’ll miss you during this temporary closing! Please follow us on social media and check our website for official updates regarding our reopening date and new to go offerings. As you are able, please support local businesses that are still providing services.

COVID-19 RESPONSE: UPDATE, MARCH 16, 2020

Starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020 Sunny Point Café will only be offering —To Go— ordering from 8am-2:30pm daily. We'll monitor recommendations from the CDC and local health officials to determine when we'll reopen our dining room for seating.

Please call us at 828.252.0055 to place an order for curbside pick up.
Our —To Go— menu is available on our website, along with a selection of beverages including our housemade sodas, bottles of wine and beer, and a build-your-own mimosa kit. You can also order our Bloody Mary mix, however we cannot include the vodka, sorry.

Please be prepared to give us a credit card number (VISA or MC) over the phone when placing your order so we may provide you with a touchless payment transaction. No cash will be accepted for —To Go— orders at this time.

Curbside pick up means we’ll run your order out to your car so as to maintain social distancing recommendations. Simply pull into our parking lot and call us to say you are here to pick up your order.

We'll be eliminating our normal —To Go— packaging charge and give you a 10% discount for helping us get through this tough time.

Spade to Spoon

Spade to Spoon is our Sunny Point Café version of “garden to table.” Immediately next to our restaurant we have a large kitchen garden where we grow a wide variety of produce, herbs and flowers to provide our chefs with the freshest of ingredients. Our kitchen garden serves as an example of productive urban land use, is educational and satisfying not only for the Sunny Point Café gang of employees, but for our lovely patrons from near and far, and the community of West Asheville itself. Growing local and organic produce is ecologically sound and aesthetically pleasing. Please take a walk through our garden next time you visit and see for yourself.
